Biography

Carla J. Giomo is both a composer and writer.  She received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in piano performance from the University of Denver, and her Ph.D. in music education from the University of Colorado at Boulder.  While working as a parish musician, she composed several musical works for use in the church which are available from GIA Publications.  She has received several commissions for works, both for choir and for instrumental ensembles, and these have resulted in recordings and/or publications.  She also is a gifted teacher and worked as a music specialist in a west Phoenix elementary school district.

Dr. Giomo has sought to infuse her musical works with a spiritual element.  She has written texts based on such writers as St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross, or has written her own lyrics and then set them to music.

She has also written articles and a book which explore the notion that music can lead both the mind and soul toward transcendence.
